Labiaplasty or labial reduction refers to the surgical removal of excess tissue in the part of the vagina, known as labia minora. Labia minora is represented by two small skin folds that are found in the labia majora. The surgical procedure is done on women who want to change the appearance of the part for hygienic reasons, as well as to enhance the appearance.
There are two techniques that are used during labiaplasty operation at our Sydney labiaplasty surgery clinic : wedge and trim techniques. Let us look at wedge technique.
Wedge technique, as the name suggests, involve making an incision that is shaped like a wedge at the third section of the labia, after which the two sections are then stitched together at the top and bottom.
When is this method recommended?
Wedge technique is usually advised for women who have a lot of tissue than is necessary. It is also a recommended method for those who have symmetry in their labias. It is important, however, to ensure that there will be no complications thereafter at the labial edges.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of wedge technique?
One of the advantages of wedge technique is the fact that it preserves the integrity of the labia edge. This impliedly means that you will be able to retain the appearance of the of the areas where incisions are made. This technique is also applied to vaginal tightening surgery at our clinic in Sydney.
Secondly, there are fewer complications that since much of the surgery done in the interior or the third middle of the labia. This means that there will be not much contact between the stitches and the cut areas. You will therefore be able to heal faster.
If you go for wedge technique, you can rest easy with full knowledge that you will not have post-surgical complications as you would with a more exterior surgical operation.
The disadvantage with the wedge technique is that sometimes you may be required to have a second surgery performed in the event that the gap occasioned by the operation fails to hold, leading to formation of a gap. This gap cannot be left like that and therefore a surgery has to be performed.
Based on this knowledge, your choice of the wedge technique will largely be influenced by factors such as your anatomy. However, if you find yourself suitable for a laser vaginal rejuvenation treatment, then be certain to speak to Dr Barnouti so he can discuss to you what this treatment can help you.
The trim technique
This is the second technique that is done during labiaplasty. Trimming involves removal excess tissue on the edges of the labia, hence the term. Through trimming, the preferred shape and size of the labia minora. The surgeon will surges that you wither take the laser labiaplasty or the classic one. The classic is a traditional method and involves the use of tools as opposed to laser.
The benefit of using trim technique is that it works where a patient has uneven labia and wants it to be trimmed back to shape. It also has the double advantage in that it can serve where you would ordinarily have gone for hood reduction in the clitoris, especially where the latter is performed together with labiaplasty.
The downside of it is that it can cause damages to the nerves surrounding labia minora plus it lacks the natural appearance. Arrange a FREE consultation with Dr Laith Barnouti to get started today!
